“When the spine flows, the body heals.”
— Dr. Carli Axford

What is the Spinal Flow Technique?

Spinal Flow is a gentle, non-invasive technique, created by Dr. CArli Axford, that works with the spine as a central pathway for communication, movement, and healing in the body.

Using light touch at specific access points, Spinal Flow supports the body in releasing long-held tension and restoring natural flow along the spinal column. Rather than forcing change, the work invites the body to respond in its own time, guided by its internal intelligence.

Why the Spine Matters

The spine is more than structural support. It is a central pathway for communication between the brain and the body.

Over time, physical strain, emotional stress, and prolonged protective patterns can create blockages along the spine. When this happens, communication through the nervous system can become less clear or less efficient. The body may compensate in ways that show up as pain, fatigue, emotional disconnection, or reduced access to pleasure and vitality.

Spinal Flow works by increasing flow along the spine, helping release these blockages. As flow returns, communication reopens and the body’s natural healing process can begin to restore balance from the inside out.

What Happens During a Spinal Flow Session

During a session, light contact is applied to specific areas of the body while you remain fully clothed and at rest. There is no manipulation or adjustment.

As the body responds, people often experience:

  • a sense of deep relaxation

  • subtle movement or unwinding

  • increased awareness or sensation

  • a feeling of settling or spaciousness

Each session is different. The body leads the process.

What Spinal Flow May Support

As flow and communication are restored through the spine, many people notice changes such as:

  • Improved sleep quality

  • Increased capacity to feel desire and pleasure

  • A stonger, more resilient body

  • Reduced stress and phsyical tension

  • Relief from pain and inflammation

The spine is a central pathway for safety, sensation, and flow.

How Spinal Flow Fits Within the BodyWise Method

Spinal Flow is a core element of the BodyWise Method because of its direct effect on the nervous system. By increasing flow along the spine, Spinal Flow helps the nervous system move out of protective states and into greater safety and responsiveness.

When the body feels safer, healing processes often accelerate. Clients frequently experience faster physical shifts and deeper emotional release when Spinal Flow is part of the work, because the system is no longer operating from survival.

Within the BodyWise Method, Spinal Flow acts as an amplifier. It creates the internal conditions that allow somatic practices and pattern work to land more effectively and integrate more fully, supporting change that feels both gentler and more lasting.
